Starting this Sunday (12-16-07), Best Buy is having a “Buy One Get One Free” deal on select HD DVD and Blu-ray movies. What we were shocked to hear is that the new Harry Potter flick as well as The Bourne Ultimatum are included in this deal. Click on the picture for the full list of titles available.

I’m glad I didn’t open my copies of Bourne and Potter/Phoenix. Now I can get credit for one and pick up two more movies for the same price. About time they did this.
Oooh..Universal and Warner trying to inflate those Potter/Bourne sales. Slick.
Not only Potter and Bourne - the list is like a top 10 for HD DVD. That is a very good deal for people who haven’t bought many titles yet. It will be very interesting to see how that plays out with the videoscan numbers - perhaps HD DVD has a chance at a win.
With this offer, and the obvious sabotage of the Bourne sales (a lot of them won’t show up on last week’s numbers) I would be interested to see a two week number comparison. I normally don’t buy into these thigns much anyway, as BD always seems to have some deal going on - plus I don’t buy many movies either way, I rent mine. Numbers are not an overall representation of things.
The sales numbers are a fairly good indicator of revenue to the studios. It will be interesting to see if/when we start to see rental revenues for HD media like we do for DVDs already. Without that the we don’t have the whole picture.
