Disney has made 60 HD films available to Purchase via Vudu, the video-on-demand set-top company. This will allow Vudu set-top owners to download, watch, and store titles like National Treasure, Bolt, Tinkerbell, and every film in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy through their set-top boxes.

HD and HDX!

Customers have the option to either watch movies instantly in regular HD or Vudu’s proprietary but extremely superior HDX format. Films viewed in HDX have to be downloaded first since Vudu’s download speeds are capped at 4 Mb/s, which is not capable of supporting seamless streaming for this format yet.

Needless to say, this development further bolsters digital delivery’s bid to slowly eat up traditional ways of distributing movies. Disney’s move of embracing this digital method of distribution(Day and Date with Blu-ray) which hinged largely on Vudu’s capability to deliver their movies in the high quality HDX, which approaches Blu-ray PQ.
