A new app has been released that turns you iPhone/iPod Touch into a remote for your Vudu movie box. The app is called “iVudu iRemote” has a price of $2.99. The iVudu app Communicates using wifi and the VUDU Net Remote Protocol.

The only problem with this app is the fact that this only works with the Vudu XL/Vudu XL2 custom installer versions of the Vudu box. In early firmware version of the regular Vudu box “Net Remote” was enabled. This has been removed in recent Vudu software updates.

The developer does not explain this in the iTunes App Store discription of the application. The only way you find this out is by visiting their website.

Maybe If we make enough noise, Vudu will re-enable the Net Remote feature on all Vudu boxes. On a related note, all TiVo S3′s, Tivo HDs, and TiVo XL’s included this type of IP based control protocol…. so come on Vudu!  Make this happen!
