Pioneer Exits TV Industry, RIP Kuro Plasma

In rather unfortunate news, Pioneer has made plans to leave the TV industry by March 2010, citing a decline in sales. The move will also force Pioneer to shut various manufacturing plants and cut approximately 10,000 jobs by the end of this year. The company plans to shut down U.K. and U.S. plants by February and April [respectively] this year.

Pioneer instead intends to focus on other areas such as the audio division and other electronics divisions. Pioneer intends to keep current models in production for a limited amount of time, new models will not be rolled out and R & D for any new units would presumably stop.

editors note: We should all be hoping that Pioneer sells its PDP related IP to someone like Panasonic or Samsung. Then at least we will have access to plasmas with Kuro like black levels.
