Memorex Blu-ray Player Gets Reviewed

Our friend Don over at The Sound Advice Blog has put up his review of the Memorex MVBD2510 Blu-ray player. The player is a BD profile 1.1 bonus view player, and supports all HD Audio codecs via HDMI Bitstream output to external decoder. You can pick up the player for $169.99 from Target online, and some Target B&M stores.

The player’s build quality looks to be somewhere in between the Insignia/Magnavox players and the Philips BDP7200.

Just got this for my parents. It’s not a bad player, if I do say so myself. I was worried at first that it was DOA, but apparently the unit just needed to warm up (left on my doorstep in the freezing cold for a couple hours).

However, there are a few discs that still won’t work: Day Watch, and Paris Je T’aime.

Here’s to hoping that Memorex gets a firmware update together sooner rather than later.

Apparently there’s an incompatability with some new BD’s )ex. Disney Bedtime Stories). Player is made by Funai, but no firmware for available for Magnavox model yet.
