While at the movies last weekend watching Tropic Thunder, we heard one of the characters mention the Blu-ray vs. HD DVD format war.

We found this extra funny considering this is a DreamWorks film, and we all know the flip-flopping history they had in the format war.
Do you guys think this was in the original script? Or was it ad-libbed at the last minute during fiming?

It was nice seeing the comment their even though it wasn’t accurate so to speak until Januaryish.
tI’s a great idea, and not a surprise when the movie studios have so much invested in the format. No different than James Bond using a Blu Ray drive in his last move, or that Sony VAIO or Sony/Ericcson phones always in their flicks. No brainer, still cool to be so mainstream though …
It was a hilarious moment, though I think the line was inaccurate. It really came down to studio support more than porn.
The part about gamers though is spot on.
@Ryan –
I remember watching some movie where the main protagonist was using a UMD disc to move around data, it was pretty funny!

Yeah it’s amazing what you can find if you pay attention – I always wonder how many folks just have no idea what is going on, and just assume it’s some kind of super spy gadget being shown.
Madden NFL 09 (PS3) blatantly showed me a sponsorship yesterday (first time I had a chance to open & play it). The game I played was “sponsored by” Transformers Blu Ray Disc, in stores 9.2.08 – they kept showing it over and over in the menus like you were watching TV. Snickers made an appearance or 7, as did Sprint Wireless.
And why are WE paying $50~70 for a #(*&^ to see advertisements?

Its EA what could people expect? Their losing billions each quarter because they want to buy everything left and right so they can compete with Activivendi or what ever they call it now. They have to make their money any way they can.
