Microsoft Plans To Withdraw From HD DVD

Though it should come as little shock to anyone who has been keeping up with current events, Microsoft has officially stated that they are going to abandon their HD DVD hardware support in the wake of Toshiba’s announcement, while still maintaining product/warranty support for all existing HD DVD add-ons.
Microsoft’s decision was preceded by the drastic price slashing of the add-on — now selling for a mere $49.99 — but in light of the announcement, the price drop is entirely bittersweet.
While we personally hate the overuse of the term "fire sale" it is hard to see this in any other light. At the same time, it’s not surprising in the least given that Toshiba has supplied the internal drives for these units since day one.

I guess you are talking about those who either do not are if their collection becomes obsolete or expect to replace it later when their players become unmaintainable.
In the latter case I would hardly call it a bargain since you have to pay twice.
