sonydrive.thumbnail.jpgThere was not a lot of new news at the Sony press conference today for BD enthusiasts. One new product that was mentioned is the BDU-X10S, a BD-ROM read only drive capable of turning a HTPC into a Blu-ray player.

The drive features a SATA interface and will ship with Cyberlink PowerDVD BD edition.

The drive will reportedly be under $200.

On the more experimental side of things, Sony had two ‘Sapphire’ prototype BD-Live players on display, as well as a statement that PS3 will be updated to BDLive (perhaps the most interesting statement made to me on the floor today).

Sony did have many other interesting products on show including OLED TVs and an 82 inch LCD with 4k x 2k resolution. I have said it before … 4k is coming! Just in time to make our BD collections redundant…

Sony also presented their Mylo, a concept that has similarities to the iPhone as well as the Rolly, which is a seriously entertaining but perhaps not overly useful robotic media player that rolls and dances to the music. Perhaps fun for kids.

I have to say though that the Sony booth is certainly one of the ‘must visit’ locations in CES 2008.

You can see more of Sony’s CES products at the official Sony CES website.
