We got tipped off by a friend to this deal, so we headed to our local Costco (Seattle area) to see for ourselves. Sure enough, Costco had the Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray player for $279.99 ($100 instant rebate). With your purchase of a BD-P1400 you can also get 8 free Blu-ray discs by following this link to Samsung website. You get the normal 5 free discs from the BDA, plus 2 select Warner titles from Samsung. Samsung will also throw in the first disc in the Planet Earth series.

Pretty soon every HD-DVD advantage is going to fade away. Best Buy and other retailers have massive bluray promotions going this week.
Ouch, first disc only of Planet Earth? What a tease!
Is this one able to do new features like PiP?
No, it’s profile 1.0, but it does (with a firmware upgrade) support DTS HD MA.
