With the latest firmware update (version 2.7), Toshiba has enabled the direct bitstream output of next gen audio codecs in it’s HD-XA2 model. You must also have a supported HDMI 1.3 enabled AV receiver in order to take advantage of this update. Also fixed in 2.7 is the lip sync issue when using the 1080p24 output (this also applies to the HD-A20). You can download the firmware ISO file, or you can update your player via ethernet.
