Home Media Magazine is reporting that the backers of the high-definition Blu-ray Disc format are staging a two-day offensive in Hollywood this week.
The so-called Blu-ray Festival coincides with the launch of a new branding and consumer education campaign, with the tagline I Do Blu, that premiered Oct. 28 during the final game of the World Series (see previous story).
Perhaps most interesting are further comments from Dan Silverberg, VP of high-definition media for Warner Home Video. Dan stated “now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu-ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter. as well as We can definitely talk Blu-ray, we are committed to the format.
These comments seem to conflict somewhat with the views around the internet that Warner is ready to drop Blu-ray in the near future.
Also of interest are comments from Fox blasting Paramount and Microsoft (though indirectly) and the news that Fox titles will boast picture-in-picture, audio mixing and other groundbreaking interactive features early 2008.
Seems like a big day for Blu-ray promotion with the media today.
