Toshiba Releases 1080p24 Enabled Firmware for 2nd Gen HD DVD Players

hd-a2.jpgToshiba has finally released the long awaited firmware update that enables 24p output for the HD-A20/HD-XA2. This is great news for people that have display devices that can accept native 1080p24. You can wait until Friday and update your player via the ethernet connection , or right now you can download/burn one of the firmware images listed below.

    Now all we need is high bitrate digital audio bitstream output.

    I hear that this is coming our way in October.

    Sounds like HighDefDigest was not too impressed by the upgrade, reiterating what we have heard on the forums that audio sync is lost on many titles.

    Thats because the XA2 is doing 24FPS instead of 23.976FPS.

    The HD-A20 is doing it correctly.

    Interesting. I wonder when the next update will come out…

    Is there any trustworthy word on which if either of the players is actually decoding the frames as frames as opposed to inverse pulldown?

    Yeah I noticed the XA2 has more issues than the A20 regarding playback & freezing … That’s one of the reasons I bought the A20.
