The cover of the DreamWorks release Blades of Glory has revealed that the studio has implemented lossless audio on the Blu-ray release – a first for DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures. Perhaps even more interesting is the lack of lossless audio on the HD DVD release of Blades of Glory. The movie runs only 93 minutes, however there are many ‘extras’ in High Definition included. It is not clear at this stage whether the omission is due to a technical reason such as disc capacity or bitrate limitation or something unrelated to the HD DVD format specifications. Cover scans of the upcoming Top Gun release show PCM lossless audio on the Blur-ray Disc and Dolby TrueHD lossless audio on the HD DVD release, indicating that Paramount is moving towards lossless audio on both formats.
