Warner Home Video has announced that “The Departed” is the best selling HD movie in the short time since HD DVD/Blu-ray have been in the hands of consumers. Since February, over 100,000 copies of the film have been sold on the next gen disc formats (not just 100k “shipped to retailers” like Sony’s claim with Casino Royale.). We think this shows the advantage of a studio being format neutral, to them why leave money on the table?

“We think this shows the advantage of a studio being format neutral, to them why leave money on the table?”…Exactly that’s why they went neutral before BD even launched. FYI.. WB were an HDDVD exclusive studio. BD exclusive studios have nothing to lose at this point. Once people feel just a little more comfertable buying BD; the 3.2 million BD players(ps3) will start becoming a huge factor. Then there are the cheap BD players coming from Funai sometime in the future. However, in the next two weeks a $599 Panasonic BD player that comes with 5 free BD IN THE BOX will be for sale! WB seen the money alright and they jump ship from HDDVD before anyone. Expect Universal to be next. There the only ones left. The Weinsteins are releasing a game/movie for the 3.2 million BD players worldwide(PS3). HDDVD will be bought out by the BDA someday!
